Aston, PA-The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in Aston, Pennsylvania, announce their Annual Garage Sale! We have books, plants, and a large collection of vinyl record albums for sale, along with various other household items. All proceeds will be donated to St. Lucy’s Secondary School for girls in Kenya, Africa.

Added background on the school:
Sister Frances Cassidy is the headmistress of St. Lucy’s Secondary School for Girls located in the western part of Kenya, not far from Lake Victoria, in a place called Rarouwa. The school has no water, no electricity, no phone line. The water used in the school for bathing, cooking, and cleaning is caught from the roofs of the building during the rainy season and stored in tanks for use. Most of those tanks are in need of repair at this time. This area is prone to severe malaria which is the cause of recurring illness among the students. Repairing the tanks can reduce the egg-laying places of the mosquitoes and, hopefully, reduce the level of malaria in students.
Sister Frances also hopes to repair the road to the school. Students have to carry their belongings for two kilometers from the bus to the school over a road filled with ruts and large holes. During the rainy season the road becomes very dangerous and, at times, impassable. Because of the current civil unrest food supplies are limited and the cost of basic necessities for the students has skyrocketed.
In addition to the physical challenges, there are educational challenges in accessing resources that will bring St. Lucy’s up to a better standard. There is great need for current books for study as well as resource books for the outdated library. Sr. Frances’ dream is to introduce computer technology that will enable her students to achieve the skills necessary to make a contribution to their community.
